Offline Browsing, Online: Browser Accelerators

Overall RatingNo Ratings
There has been a lot of talk about faster ways of accessing the Internet, from ISDN to cable modems to ADSL. A breed of software products--called browser accelerators--tackles the speed issue in your browser as opposed to trying to increase the amount of bandwidth. Most of the products work much the same way: While you are reading one page of a website, the browser accelerator saves all of the link information to cache. When you click on a link, it appears automatically and the unused link information is deleted.
New Roman;">PeakMedia's PeakJet 2000 is a browser accelerator with a lot of bells and whistles. With PeakJet 2000, you can also do things, such as save browsing sessions for browsing offline and create a "top 20 favorite sites" list. It can be downloaded for free for 30 days (after which, it can be purchased for $29.95). NetSonic is a free browser accelerator utility that claims to work with all browsers, including America Online and Opera. Another browser accelerator is Web Early, which works much the same as the other utilities but also attempts to speed things up by cutting out ad banners. A trial version of WebEarly is free. You can purchase the full version for $27. Before you try one of the browser accelerators, find out just how fast you are currently downloading information with PY Software's Any Speed, which measures the speed of your ISP, Local Area Network or CD-ROM drive
