Do you know what are the six degrees of separation? It is a popular theory that each of us can be linked to any other person on Earth through six intermediaries. This unit “social measure” was taken in a play by John Guare in 1990 then adapted to the screen in 1993 in a film by Fred Schepisi, Six degrees. The theory of “Six Degrees” comes again to be confirmed, and this time scale. Indeed, since June 2006, Eric Horvitz and Jure Leskovec, two researchers at Microsoft, have analyzed nearly 30 billion electronic conversations on a panel of 180 million users of Live Messenger - nearly half of global messaging traffic instant. The study reveals that takes average build relationships with 6.6 contacts before they can talk to a person who is not on its list of contacts. In 78% of cases, 7 intermediate contacts are necessary. Interviewed by The Washington Post, Horvitz said: “I found it very surprising. There seems to be a social constant connectivity for humanity. If people have always had the impression of being close, we showed a large scale that this idea was much more than urban myth. “
