Food for Thought: Dieting Tips

Overall RatingNo Ratings

Don't you hate watching someone eat like a rabbit ... and actually pretending to enjoy it? Let's face it, if nutrition and weight were unimportant, carrot sticks and rice cakes would be drummed out of the food chain for good. We'd be living on potato chips, fettucine Alfredo and hot fudge sundaes. Elizabeth Taylor would still be considered the most beautiful woman in the world. Oprah and Janet Jackson could give in to their basic desire to pig out. Ah, brave new world, with such wondrous creatures in it!

But, unfortunately,

the way things are, those of us with differently-abled (translation: slow to normal) metabolisms and normal nutritional needs have to find realistic ways to lose weight while maintaining a healthy diet.

To that end, CyberDiet advocates, "Creating a healthy lifestyle encompasses not only a healthy diet, but also includes exercise, attitude, knowledge and being open to change." One change CyberDiet suggests is filling out its nutritional profile, which will assess how many calories and nutrients you should be consuming each day based on your individual needs and goals. After you enter a whole bunch of personal physical information, it spits back a goal weight and what your daily caloric, protein, carbohydrate and fat intake should be. It even provides recommendations and detailed descriptions for sources of cholesterol, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Another potentially inspiring page is the Diet and Weight Loss/Fitness Home Page. Donn Jasura talks about the trials and tribulations of his 60-pound weight loss and credits it to an overall fitness regimen. Although the site is not exactly the latest and greatest in Web design, it does have several interesting and useful links, including the Diet and Weight Loss Tips Collection. Mr. Jasura divides the tips into four categories: Eating and Nutrition, the Mind Game, Moving/Exercise, and More Tips From Readers. He also examines that eternal paradox: "Why do I eat when I'm not hungry?"

Finally, there's always Old Faithful, a.k.a. Weight Watchers. The site helps users choose the right weight loss program for their individual needs, such as the 123 Success Program.

See what the Web can do for you and your quest to shed some unwanted pounds. And try not to eat that whole pint of Ben and Jerry's while you're doing it.
