Create a network between Windows Vista and XPIf you listen to Microsoft, network management under Vista Derniere large version of Windows to date, exit early 2007. Windows Vista is the first major revision of Windows since XP. It makes a … is a real revolution: everything has been redesigned from A to Z, there are still quantities of advanced ever seen (in a Microsoft operating system) in many areas: TCP / IP, UDP, etc.

(see our article Windows Vista Network and security). Unfortunately, Microsoft itself remains as users and professionals have learned to know and fear, when the time comes to make an update to a new operating system. Today, we decided to try to establish a local network between a computer with Vista and another sub WindowsNom that cover operating systems with graphical user interface from Microsoft. Windows is published in 80 years. It was then … XP, to test some basic features.
Choosing a working group
When you turn networked computers using different operating systems, generally you want to place them in the same working group. Vista makes a first novelty in this area.
Depending on whether you upgrade from XP Home or XP Professional, the name of your working group may change. Indeed, sometimes Vista chooses the description of the computer as a working group.
To change the name of the computer, the Working Group or the field is used as before the properties of the system. Under Windows XP, there was this menu via a right click on My Computer and clicking on “Properties”, then open the tab “Computer name.”
Under Vista, Workstation does not change its name (in English, it passes through against “My Computer” to “Computer”). By cons, you will now begin by accessing the window below to be able to modify the properties of the system:

The window itself can not make changes. Further down is the Properties area of computer name, domain and the working group. Then click the “Change Settings”.

Windows will ask your permission before proceeding. We have already discussed at length in other articles the frequent need to give its authorization under Windows Vista. But as you may be faced relatively often during this article, provided you avoid forth.
After clicking on “Continue” is finally coming to the window to change the name of the computer and its working group. Once all your computers placed in the same workgroup, you may be wondering why it is impossible to open the documents shared by the computer with Vista since those under XP. It’s very simple: in Windows Vista (as in XP), the option “Sharing files and printers’ is off by default.
Once this option enabled, it will still give a name to your file-sharing “Shared documents”, and even when this is done, you will discover that by default, Vista protected by a password access to shared folders (we will come back).
