The Three Stooges. The Marx Brothers. Charlie Chaplin. W.C. Fields. They’re all masters of physical comedy, stars in an era when falling down properly was a lot more important than doing a top-notch Ronald Reagan imitation. Our tastes in comedy may have changed a bit (I mean, I fall down and hurt myself several times a day, and nobody laughs at me), but they’ll always hold a place in our hearts. And on the Internet as well, of course--it’s been the home for clumsy, comical souls for years anyway .
If it’s Three Stooges info you’re trying to find, take a look at the aptly named The Three Stooges--A Starting Point. It’s sloppy and disorganized but offers an incredible amount of content, including Stooges-related news articles, FAQs, press releases and a great collection of links to other Stooges sites. Also worth a look-see is The Three Stooges Collectors Showcase, with its huge collection of Stooges memorabilia ranging from comic books to calling cards.
Trying to find Chaplin resources? The Unofficial Charlie Chaplin WWW Page is chock full of ’em. The site isn’t too fancy, but it offers a great image archive, several biographies of the actor and a great collection of links. The novel Chaplin Film Locations: Then & Now is a guide to various locations used for Chaplin films, with directions on how to find them and descriptions (with photos) of how they look today.
Looking for Marx Brothers stuff? Brad’s Marx Brothers Page offers quotes, song lyrics, dialogue and sound files. Oriented more toward dedicated fans, Why a Duck? features information on every film and television appearance, a complete guide to the actors and a lot more; unfortunately, it also takes forever to load.
Check out Project Buster for a wealth of sound files and pictures of the maverick silent film and TV star Buster Keaton, and try W.C. Fields--The Great Man for a detailed guide to the life of the 1920s star. Just don’t trip over anything on your way there.
