The Moscow Times reports that the leading Russian search engine, Yandex, plans for float shares in an IPO on New York’s Nasdaq stock exchange this fall. They have accredited this to a “banking source with knowledge of the matter”. Yandex is currently the most popular search engine in Russia with approximately 55% market coverage. A system used when the internet was in its infancy may be the answer to more thorough search engines, Chinese researchers say. They propose a search engine that searches via the domain name server (DNS), a system where computers ‘talk’ directly to other computers. Specifically, they propose an engine that searches first by country. Wang Liang and team from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan published details of their search engine on the physics website arXiv, which is owned and operated by Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
