Virtualization has the wind in their sails! Casio has selected Xen, technology incorporated into Suse Linux Enterprise Server operating system and open published by Novell. With Xen, the Japanese electronics group has chosen to optimize its nfrastructure (to run multiple virtual servers running Windows and Linux on a minimum of physical servers) without straining its budget. “The virtualization of servers allows us to reduce our costs of hardware and software. According to our preliminary estimates, the cost of the solution (Xen incorporated into Suse Linux Enterprise) is 10% lower than competing solutions, “said Norihito Kuniyoshi, general manager of Casio Information Service, in a statement. In the medium term, Casio intends to reduce by half the total number of physical servers using Xen or other virtualization solutions. It is believed to supply the U.S. publisher VMware (EMC), whose recent IPO was very noticeable. This introduction and the acquisition by Citrix of Xen Source, a company founded by the proponent Xen, the British Ian Pratt, demonstrate the desire of markets for virtualization.
